The Barbed Suture and its use in Oral Surgery

An article presented by Dr Michael Norton about the new V Loc suture - On occasion a new product or material becomes available that revolutionises, simplifies or expands the scope of one’s clinical practice. DThe Piezosurgery concept certainly revolutionised bone cutting and the harvesting of block grafts and today the introduction of the barbed knotless suture has the potential to revolutionise the closure of long span incisions. This new class of suture takes advantage of 21st century technology to deliver a unique product that has already found favour in other spheres of surgery, notably in obstetrics and gynaecology1 where surgeons are also working with mucosa. This article presents information on V-Loc™ 90 (Covidien, Mansfield, MA, USA) and its use in the oral cavity.
