The Ever-Challenging Quest to Achieve Predictable Implant Aesthetics -A Case report.
By Anand Krishnamurthy - 12/12/2011
Single tooth implant in the Pre-maxilla aesthetic zone has always been the challenge & the cosmetic milestone to set as far as aesthetic implant dentistry is concerned. Optimal implant positions, adequate preservation of labial hard & soft tissue, papillary emergence and a lifelike anatomic restoration are the key factors which determine success .By definition the success of an osseointegrated implant is determined only after the form & function is completely achieved. Not only should the implant fixture be submerged in ordered living bone to biologically integrate, it should also be capable to withstand the biomechanical loads, & aesthetically have a value equal to a prosthetic restoration on a natural tooth.

Guided CAD CAM Implant surgery for edentulous mandible with Immediate Provisionilization using Mini-Transitional Implants for Interim healing period, a case report.
By Anand Krishnamurthy - 22/05/2011
This article describes the advantages of using Mini Transitional Implants during the SCAN PLAN EXECUTE concept, where the Guided Planning software (IMPLANT SMART) pre-determines the accurate prosthetically driven positions of the Final regular platform Implants (Uniti), which will eventually be loaded after the Osseo-integration of the Implants. The Mini Implants (TRI) help in elimination of the Trans-mucosal loads which would be detrimental to the final implants after their placements. This also provides the patient with adequate retention and comfort under long term therapy for having a Interim Mini Implant supported Over-denture during the crucial Osseo-integration period.

Bored of General Dentistry?? Platform switch to - Implant Dentistry
By Anand Krishnamurthy - 21/01/2011
Hi Colleagues...I wrote this article on a Sunday afternoon, when I was in no mood to get into implant dentistry technicalities, show documented cases and go blah blah..I wanted the reader who is not familiar with implant dentistry, to gain a basic insight into this specialty, so that he or she can add some extra punch to their respective practices. Implant dentistry can also help a general practitioner who is bored of the usual “Drill & Fill” daily grind, and rejuvenate him to gain added interest and transform his practice.

Reconstruction of a partially edentulous maxilla case
By Anand Krishnamurthy - 01/01/2011
Reconstruction of the edentulous posterior maxilla with Dental Implants has always been a challenge for the clinician due to the quantity and quality of the alveolar bone in the residual ridge below the maxillary sinuses. The maxillary sinus pneumatises to a large extent after the natural teeth are removed and there seems to be always a deficit of bone volume to successfully place dental implants without the aid of augmentation and anatomic sinus elevation. This article describes the use of short, porous-surfaced root-form dental implants and an indirect, simultaneous, osteotome-mediated sinus elevation procedure

Implant placement in multiple edentulous spaces and treating a broken implant
By Anand Krishnamurthy - 13/11/2010
The last few years have seen an explosion of technological advances in the areas of CT and Cone Beam (CBCT) imaging, interactive treatment planning software, CAD CAM applications, minimally invasive flapless oral implant surgery with guided surgical procedures and CT-derived templates. Implant dentistry enjoys one of the highest success rates for any orthopaedic medical restorative process, and these success rates perhaps explain one of the barriers to clinicians ordering more computed tomography (CT) scans for prospective implant patients. CT imaging can help clinicians improve all aspects of implant reconstruction, including both restorative and surgical phases while diminishing complications of mal-positioned implants. Clinicians need to understand the importance and benefits of CT imaging Based on three-dimensional implant planning software for computed tomography (CT) scan data, customized surgical templates and final dental prostheses could be designed to ensure high precision transfer of the implant treatment planning to the operative field and an immediate rigid splinting of the installed implants. Moreover this concept is purely restoration driven and helps in achieving a prosthetically driven treatment plan which is ideal for long term prognosis.

Posterior Maxilla- The Use of short porous surface implants
By Anand Krishnamurthy - 02/11/2010
This article describes the use of short, porous-surfaced root-form dental implants and an indirect, simultaneous, osteotome-mediated sinus elevation procedure to restore the posterior maxilla when as little as 3-5 mm of bone remain below the sinus floor. The 2 main challenges in restoring the posterior maxilla with dental implant-supported or implant retained prostheses are that :- (1) Bone in this region of the mouth is often highly cancellous; and (2) The maxillary sinus often encroaches on the remaining alveolar ridge, especially when the teeth were lost because of periodontal disease and/or were extracted many years previously.
