Description
Prof Avijit Banerjee, an internationally renowned lecturer and researcher in Cariology & Minimally Invasive Operative Dentistry from King's College London, describes and details the contemporary minimally invasive approach used to manage deep carious lesions. Appraising the scientific and clinical evidence in light of the Minamata Treaty to phase down the use of dental amalgam worldwide, he outlines the modern rationale and protocols for selective carious tissue removal and adhesive restoration with bio-interactive materials.
Aims and Objectives:
After listening to this Tubules talk, the participant will:
1. be able to explain the principles behind minimum intervention oral healthcare and minimally invasive operative dentistry, in terms of caries management
2. be able to list and define the principles of selective carious tissue removal, especially during the management of deep carious lesions in permanent teeth
3. be in a position to choose the appropriate adhesive bio-interactive restorative materials that could be used to restore the cavity and maintain pulp sensibility.
4. be informed about PG education options in this discipline, including a distance-learning masters programme run by Prof Banerjee at KCL Dental Institute.
