Location

The programme is aimed at the higher educational needs of Dental Practitioners and Allied Health Professionals in Primary and Secondary Care sectors who intend to introduce dental sleep medicine as a modality when providing treatments. It also instils the core skills essential for the professional practice of sleep medicine dentistry using new techniques and a commitment to lifelong learning.

The objective is to provide dental surgeons and Allied Health Professionals with the core knowledge and practical skills essential for the delivery of competent, high quality dental care in accordance with GDC and other internationally recognised guidelines. Additionally, it is to promote an understanding of the different requirements essential to the provision of ethical, predictable and evidence-based sleep medicine dentistry. Ultimately to improve the patient’s experience and their care and for members in our profession to reduce their risk and vulnerability medico-legally.

HOW WILL YOU BE ASSESSED

WE employ online course assessments for individual and overall module scores, which are based on an end-of-module test [summative assessments]. Each module will be assigned credits, which will all contribute equally to the final award of the PG CERTIFICATE. To be awarded the PG CERTIFICATE, active participation in online student discussion boards and forums, as well as end-of-module tutor-led discussion forums, is required.

TIME COMMITMENT

WE understand clinical dental practitioners' and specialists' time constraints. As a result, the programme is delivered in bite-sized but comprehensive modules, each consisting of individual lecture series that build and recap on previously acquired knowledge. The PG Diploma is a 12-month programme, with each module lasting four months, including personal study.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

A primary dental qualification (such as a Bachelor of Dental Surgery), or its international equivalent, plus a minimum of one years’ post-qualification experience in general dental practice or equivalent is desirable.
