Primary and secondary impressions for an upper complete denture - Dr. Andrew Shelley
Aims and objectives:
- Understand the anatomy of the denture bearing area, and the recording of the functional sulcus in the anterior and posterior areas
- How to mould and soften the impression compound, prior to the initial impression
- Tips on marking the borders on the impression for the special tray
- Demonstration of the special tray
- How to design the correct special tray, using green stick wax, for posterior border moulding
- How to take the special tray impression, in alginate, and what areas to mark, and inform the lab
Primary and secondary impressions for a lower complete denture - Dr. Andrew Shelley
Aims and objectives:
- Learn two techniques for recording the impression of the edentulous lower jaw. The admixed technique, described by McCord and Tyson in 1997, and functional impression technique
- Understand the anatomy related to the lower edentulous area
- How to mould and soften the impression compound, prior to the initial impression
- Demonstration of the special tray, and the special tray upper impression, using the AdMix technique
- Demonstration of the functional impression from the base, recording the movement of the lips and other soft tissues

- Learn how to cut a post dam

- How to establish the correct vertical dimension

Aims and objectives:
- Learn how to prescribe lip support, and vertical dimension, for complete upper dentures with natural lower teeth
- Assessment of peripheral seal, fit, occlusion and appearance
- How to prescribe tooth position for a reset in the laboratory
- How to make minor changes in tooth position, at the chairside, for natural-looking tooth positions
- How to re-register where there are discrepancies in the occlusion
