Description

Aims and objectives:

Gain an understanding of the diagnosis and management of tooth erosion, taking into consideration:

  • Dental caries, water fluoridation, fluoride toothpaste, patient education on diet and oral hygiene
  • Periodontal disease, regular maintenance, patient education on OH and smoking cessation
  • Recognising the early signs of dental erosion
  • Increasing the awareness of the importance of erosion in patients with worn dentition
  • Attrition, mastication or bruxism, physiologic or pathologic, context of age
  • Abrasion, abnormal mechanical process
  • Erosion, chemical loss of tooth structure - no bacteria, intrinsic, extrinsic
  • Abfraction, multifactorial in the cervical area
  • Implementation of an effective protocol to limit progression of erosive tooth wear
