In the last few years, we have heard a lot about minimally invasive dentistry. The common point is tissue preservation, preferably by preventing disease from occurring and intercepting its progress, but also removing and replacing with as little tissue loss as possible. This concept can embrace all aspects and fields of our profession.
Today all three main phases of modern endodontics (access opening, shaping and obturation) can be managed minimally invasive. Although on these issues there is often disagreement and their application turns out to be empirical and subjective. The authors will explain the rationale behind their choices and will give a predictable and reproducible protocol to reach the goal of being effective and at the same time minimally invasive, in all steps of endodontics: access opening, shaping and obturation.
