The perio-pros connections part 5. The role of orthodontics.

Welcome to this series on Periodontal-Prosthodontic connections. Inter disciplinary treatment and working together as a team is important to get the desired patient outcomes.

The presenters of this series are :

Dr Boota Singh Ubhi, a specialist periodontist and clinical director of Birmingham periodontal and implant centre (more popularly known as BPI) andDr.Gurvinder Bhirth, who has a keen interest in restorative dentistry Boota and Gurvinder did the periodontal-prosthodontic connection at BPI for many years. They both worked as a team together at the same practice for nearly a decade. They share cases and practice interdisciplinary treatments regularly. They also run their own courses.

Aims

Translate and describe when to intervene with soft tissue augmentation during orthodontics and what interventions are needed and be able to know when to undertake orthodontics in periodontitis patients

Objectives

• Know the literature around the topic of orthodontics and periodontitis
• Identify whether to graft before or after orthodontics
• How to manage orthodontic care in chronic periodontitis patients

Learning outcomes
