Esthetic crown lengthening is one of the most satisfying dental procedures for patients, yet it remains one of the least recommended procedures by dentists. This presentation will describe the diagnostic criteria and techniques for planning treatment in both adolescent orthodontic patients and adult interdisciplinary patients. The surgical technique will be illustrated and the role of osseous surgery for achieving predictable and stable tooth exposure be explained. The limitations of “flapless” osseous surgery will be addressed.
