In this video, recorded at ConsEuro 2015, as part of a series of lectures, Dr. Mark Cronshaw provides an overview on the use of lasers in restorative dentistry. He demonstrates clinical cases of laser ablation in a class V failing composite, removal of carious tissue in cavities and amalgam ablation. He will also detail the use of lasers in composite veneers, feldspathic veneers, ceramic brackets, dentine hypersensitivity and finally their use in various endodontic applications.

Aims and objectives:

Understand the use of lasers in restorative dentistry, taking into consideration:

  • Restorative indications to include cavity preparation, surface modification, endodontics, restorative-periodontal interface
  • Tissue composition
  • Enamel ablation, key modifiers
  • Laser variables, intrinsic parameters, adjustable parameters, calculated parameters
  • Management options
  • Composite ablation, advantages, disadvantages
  • Caries removal
  • Glass Ionomer, amalgam
  • Veneers to include feldspathic and pressed
