These lectures were recorded at the Megagen 5th European Symposium 2016 held at the Westminster Park Plaza London

Lecture 1. Introduction by Dr Miguel Stanley

Lecture 2. Preservation of Bundle Bone, Reality or Myth? by Dr Howie Gluckman

Aims and objectives

  • Treatment planning for the immediate implant therapy
  • Gain an insight into aesthetic problems associated with single implants and multiple implants and what possible complications can arise
  • An understanding of the limitations of socket preservation and soft tissue grafting techniques in thin biotypes
  • Understanding where partial extraction therapies as a possible solution can be used in these situations
  • Overview of socket shield/root membrane technique, root submergence technique and pontic shield techniques and
  • Understanding the benefits of the partial extraction therapies
  • Some frequently asked questions about the socket shield technique:
  • How long should the socket shield be?
  • How deep should I place the implant?
  • How much space do I need between the socket shield and the implant?
  • Do we need Emdogain for the retained root?
  • Do I have to fill the jump gap?
  • How high should I leave the socket shield above the bone?
  • How thick should the socket shield be?
  • Subgingival crown distance to the shield?
  • Pontic site development for multiple teeth situations

Lecture 3. The Role of Digital in Implant Dentistry by Professor Giuseppe Luongo

Aims and objectives

  • Overview of digital technology in implant dentistry including:
  • Data acquisition
  • Planning using the various information integrated into software
  • Manufacturing
  • Communication
  • Digital applications in daily implant dentistry
  • Applications in implant dentistry in hard tissue grafting and implant placement
  • Getting an overview of where inaccuracies can occur

Lecture 4. Innovation: Techniques, tools or both?

Aims and Objectives:

  • Gain an overview of how to plan implants digitally using CBCT and STL files and how to gain accuracy
  • Understand how bone density (estimated on cone beam CT) relates to the primary stability of implants
  • Understand how bone density can be estimated or determined on the digital planning software
  • Understand how the triad of bone density, ISQ and insertion torque can be used to plan for immediate loading
  • Understand the suitable conditions for one day implant guided surgery
  • Gain an insight into the rules for guided surgery
  • Overview of digital facial analysis and Curves of Spee/Wilson digitally for full mouth guided planning

Lecture 5. Digital and Analog Combined Workflow, Using Simpleway® Implant Prosthetic System by Dr Joon Ho Lee

Aims and Objectives:

  • An overview of an abutment system that can help in immediate loading cases
  • Use of the BonePin® for immediate cases and its benefits especially in considering the prosthetic outcome
  • The use of the Bone Pen in osteotomy preparation to allow for guided 3-dimensional positioning
  • The use of Simpleway® abutments

Lecture 6. Learn from my mistakes. Choosing the right tools for the right techniques by Dr Sam Lee

Aims and Objectives:

  • Complications in implant dentistry with a particular focus on surgical complications
  • Understand how to avoid surgical complications

Lectures 7-11.  Stepping Out of the Box, But Never Out of the Route by Drs Ashraf Souayah, Soheil Bechara, Davide Faranato, Julian Filipov  and Michael Larson

Lecture 7. . Biological response to implant therapies by Dr Ashraf Souayah

Aims and Objectives:

  • The rules of good cosmetic outcomes in implant therapy
  • The esthetic parameters to assess for positive outcomes
  • The classification of extraction sites and how to develop soft and hard tissue in implant sites
  • Importance of site development and how to achieve these
  • Minimum soft tissue parameters
  • Tips on management of the narrow extraction sites in the anterior zone

Lecture 8. Soft tissue and site maturation by Dr Souheil Bechara and Davide Faranato

Aims and Objectives:

  • Understand the importance of buccal bone and its width
  • Does buccal bone width affect bone resorption?
  • Understand the role of soft tissue and the importance of Phenotype (over and above biotype)
  • The importance of thinking out of the box – to use soft tissue to increase the buccal tissue when patients do not want bone grafting
  • An insight into phenotype, the source of soft tissue donor, and how the one abutment one time technique all benefit to achieve an aesthetic outcome

Lecture 9. The biology of bone grafting by Micheal Larrson and Julian Filipov

Aims and Objectives:

  • What surgical material to use
  • What biomaterial to use
  • How long do we wait before choosing our implant
  • A comparison of various bone regenerating mechanisms and techniques
  • An overview of what determines success in hard tissue grafting
  • Understand the limitations of grafting

Lecture 10. Preserving soft and hard tissue by Soheil Bechara

Aims and Objectives:

  • To understand hard and soft tissue management in immediate placement.
  • To understand the principles of immediate loading.
  • To understand the importance of soft tissue support during healing.

Lecture 11. Summary and questions

Aims and Objectives:
