*** NEW, UPDATED IRMER (2017) ***
This series of lectures covers Radiography and Radiation Protection for dental professionals, meeting the GDC’s requirement for five hours CPD in a five-year cycle and meet the requirements of IRMER [Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposure) Regulations] legislation for continuous training in radiography and radiation protection.
These Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposure) Regulations (IRMER) 2017 replace the 2000 regulations (including amendments made in 2006 and 2011) and deal with the safe and effective use of ionising radiation when exposing patients. Also considered are the Ionising Radiation Regulations (with the IRR 2017 legislation also now replacing IRR 99) that are aimed at the protection and health of staff working with ionising radiation.
Aim and Objectives:
A consideration of the principle of radiation physics and the risks of ionising radiation
A consideration of radiation dose in dental radiography
An examination of the principles of radiation protection and selection criteria
A look at radiation protection legislation and how quality assurance fits into this. What does IRMER legislation say and what does IRR legislation say. An assessment of recent update changes to these legislations with IRMER Regulations 2017 replacing the 2000 Regulations, and IRR 2017 legislation also now replacing IRR 99.
